Prof. Chun-Yu HO shared his recent discovery in the area of catalytic organometalloid synthesis during the ACS Excellence in Science Symposium: The Journal of Organic Chemistry and Organic Letters, an invited-only event held in October 15-16 2013 at Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC). He was selected by the Editor-in-Chief of JOC and OL, and the Director of SIOC to receive the best poster award.
The presented work complements the existing catalytic organometalloid synthesis methodology that using vinylsilanes, provides a novel and also a general approach to access beta-organometalloids by “shuffle-off the beta-silyl elimination pathway”. The idea was demonstrated in a catalytic synthesis of gem-disubstituted olefins functionalized with various beta-organometalloids such as R3Si and R3Ge.
