SUSTech’s 2018 Freshmen Start Military Training

On the morning of August 17, the SUSTech freshmen started their military training education. At the National Defense Education Base of Huizhou City, east of Shenzhen. University Council member Chen Zhifeng, Director Xue Zheng of the Student Affairs Office, Director Liang Guobin from the Volunteer Division of the Huizhou Military division participated in the training with all the new students, in conjunction with leaders and trainees of the Huizhou Municipal Defense Education and Training Center. Executive Vice Dean of Shuren College, Lai Xiaodong, presided over the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony started with the traditional solemnity of the flag raising ceremony, which saw the national anthem ringing out over the grounds. With the attention of all participants captured, all the freshmen stood in straight lines, upholding strong military postures.

Tian Geng was honored to be the freshmen representative and promised that he would actively study military skills, sculpt his spirit and character, and strive to become a strong person who is not afraid of being tired and will continue to persist to the end.

Later in the ceremony, Director Xue Zheng awarded the flag to the students for their hard work.

Despite arriving on campus the day before, the students were quick to get into the spirit of their military training. At the opening ceremony, students rushed into the training grounds under the instructions of their commanders, following their orders correctly and earning applause for their demonstrations of spirit and military understanding.

On behalf of the University, Chen Zhifeng expressed his respect to the officers and soldiers that support the training. He thanked the leaders who support the military training and national defense education of SUSTech. In a later session, Director Liang Guobin told the students about China’s security situation and how the army is put together. He pointed out that the national defense force is a top priority for the country and an important factor for making a strong country.

 After their training, the students would return to campus to study for their degrees. During the training, college counsellors and the SUSTech freshmen will live and eat together in the barracks.
