On the afternoon of November 9, 2013, an AIDs prevention expert from Shizhong District, Jinan City, Mrs. Li Hui, also a parent of a 2013freshman of SUSTC came to our school and delivered a lively and comprehensive lecture on college students’ sex health education at our invitation. A lot of staff and students, and even some parents attended it.

In her lecture, Li Hui analyzed the current status of our prevention and control efforts against AIDs by using some real cases. She pointed out that the ignorance of sex health education led to the impossibility for college students to build a correct understanding of sex, and that also comprised a vital reason for the increase of AIDs infectors among them. In her idea, sex health education in college should not be vague on sex; it should work to strengthen the students’ sense of responsibility and guide them to be responsible for what they have done in terms of love and sex. Apart from that, Li also explained the pathogenesis and prevention measures of the disease and appealed to students to treat AIDs infectors with “devotion, responsibility, respect and understanding” to build a harmonious social climate on one hand, and on the other hand, to develop self-awareness to end HIV spread.

In the Q&A session, students and their parents communicated with Mrs. Li in regard of the setting of the sex health education courses in college, how to improve self-protection and sex education in families. As commented by the students, the lecture was quite comprehensive and moreover an open and close conversation.

This sex health education lecture, one of the serial educational activities organized by Student Work Department and Students’ Union for freshmen, aims at guiding them to build the right value on relationship and marriage, improving their moral integrity and enhancing their self-protection abilities. Following that the Work Department will also hold Career Mapping Seminar and Legal Education and Publicity for them recently.
