On the afternoon of December 6, 2014, the third “One Day College Life” event by SUSTC Volunteer Team (SUSTC Public Welfare Organization) was held in our school. The visitors, instead of pupils like previously, were more than 60 students from well-known high schools in Shenzhen, including Shenzhen High School, Bao’an Middle School, Shenzhen Second Senior High School and Shenzhen Experimental School. They came to SUSTC with great interest and reaped a pleasant, full and meaningful afternoon here by taking a tour around our campus accompanied by our volunteers, participating in our experiments and listening to a lecture of our professor.  

Those high school students were deeply attracted by our beautiful and modern campus, the library, college, teaching building, blue sky, green land and big banyan trees, so much for them to take. What expressed them more was their personal experience of our state-of- art scientific research environment, comprehensive living facilities, and strong academic atmosphere which were indeed amazing.

When it came to the fascinating experiment, all of them jumped to the experiments after the teacher’s explanation. All of a sudden, the lab was filled with vitality: their scratching head in the case of difficulties, their helplessness during the operation and the cheers after the problem was solved… such a practice gave them a chance to go through the real exploration of scientific truth.

At last, they moved to our teaching building where our students shared their experience in International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) and Professor Zhang Xianke gave a lecture on the mysteries of mathematics. 

Before we realized it, the event came to an end by sunset, and those over 60 visitors left reluctantly. As told by them, SUSTC definitely met their expectations and they looked forward to the future college life for which they decided to work hard from now to get them fully prepared.
