At 9am on December 14, 2013, a windy winter day, the second “Walk for a Million” with the slogan of “Walk and Spread Love” was kicked off at the side of Shenzhen Bay. More than 11000 participants, including over 150 staff and students from SUSTC, walked from the Moon Valley of Shenzhen Bay Park all the way to the Wedding Plaza, to raise funds and promote charity spirit in the healthy way of walking.
“Walk for a Million” is so far the largest commonweal walking activity in Shenzhen. It’s originated from Hong Kong and Macau and jointly initiated by Shenzhen Project Care Organization Committee Office, Shenzhen Project Care Foundation and Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.
SUSTC staff and students were quite proactive in this activity. One week before it, they already started money-raising as called and organized by SUSTC Public Welfare Organization and the total donations reached close to 5000 RMB by December 13.
On that day of the activity, more than 150 members from our school formed SUSTC team and gathered in Shenzhen Bay Park with other teams. They left their love footprint along the 3km-long deck beside the pretty Bay with SUSTC flag flying high in the air. Through their personal participation in the walks they displayed SUSTC’s devotion to the commonweal undertaking and spirit to shoulder social responsibilities.
Till 6pm on December 13, the donations Shenzhen Project Care Foundation received totaled more than 5 million RMB.
