SUSTech VP speaks at Guangdong Provincial higher education promotion meeting

Foshan Central European Center was the host venue for Guangdong Province’s meeting for the Promotion Plan of Scientific and Technological Innovation and Higher Education. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) sent two representatives, University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong and Vice President Teng Jinguang.

Achievements from Guangdong’s universities were on display at the meeting. SUSTech opted to show its strengths in scientific research as well as its innovations in areas such as industry-university research, industrialization projects, and science and technology projects. Deputy Governor of Guangdong Province Huang Ningsheng was accompanied by Guo Yurong as he toured the SUSTech exhibition and fully affirmed SUSTech’s achievements in development.

Huang Ningsheng spoke on the second day of the meeting, placing high importance on the status of innovation in universities. He promoted the scientific and technological innovation of universities across Guangdong and encouraged them to focus on deepening the balance between reform and development of higher education.

Teng Jinguang made a keynote speech about “building a world-class research university, rooted in China.” Teng Jinguang briefed the audience about SUSTech and spoke about a range of issues. He talked about our performance in university rankings, the speed at which SUSTech had obtained the approval to issue doctoral degrees, its talent pipeline and the continuous growth in both research funding and student quality. When he spoke about SUSTech’s development achievements, he commented that SUSTech would seize the opportunity to become a key high-level university in Guangdong Province. It would strive for “double first-class” status as it seeks to build a world-class research university.

The group of 18 colleges and universities in attendance signed a support agreement. SUSTech Council Chairperson Guo Yurong signed on behalf of SUSTech and Huizhou College.
