Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) continued its commitment to educating its graduate tutors thoroughly. Late November saw the SUSTech Graduate School organize the second graduate tutor training session, which was attended by more than 60 tutors.
Vice Dean Yang Shuanghua of the SUSTech Graduate School briefed the tutors on the graduate school situation, where he spoke about the policies for enrolling graduate students and issuing them degrees.
Deputy Dean of the Graduate School at South China University of Technology (SCUT) Xu Yong was a special guest at the training session. He talked about the importance of postgraduate education, training methods and the guiding roles of tutors. Xu Yong expanded on his experience with instructors at SCUT and explained how to establish appropriate teacher-student relationships. As part of the training process, tutors should teach and set examples for their students. The tutors asked many questions of Xu Yong, before exchanging and discussing the problems they have encountered in their work.
The annual postgraduate tutor training session is a critical starting point for implementing the duties of postgraduate tutors and strengthening their educational abilities. Through the training sessions, the tutors become stronger and more responsible mentors, as they become more aware of their student’s postgraduate work.
