Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) hosted a number of games of the 2nd Cross-Straits Student Baseball League last week. At the end of the tournament, a student exchange event took place at SUSTech with two universities from Taiwan province. The baseball players and coaches from Shih Hsin University and the Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science from Taiwan came to SUSTech and exchanged ideas with the students. SUSTech Vice President Tang Tao came and spoke to the students.
The visiting teachers and students first visited the 3D campus construction planning sand table. It gave them an opportunity to understand SUSTech’s history and achievements.
Tang Tao welcomed everyone. He took questions about SUSTech’s physical education programs and anticipated that both sides would establish long-term friendship through this exchange.
The exchange activities between students from both sides were held at the Lakeside College. Zhiren College hosted the exchange, where students’ representatives from all six residential colleges and many student associations spoke to the invited students. The College designed ice-breaking activities for the students to mingle. SUSTech students and guest students were paired up based on the connection of verses of ancient poems, and then competed with other groups for fun. Discussions arose from these team-building games quickly and friendship budded.
The Zhiren College Folk Orchestra provided solo performances of guzheng, erhu, and suona. Students from both sides enjoyed student-made pastries. The numerous traditional cultural elements enjoyed by students from three universities best expressed the shared root of a cross-strait family.
