Earlier this week, the Ministry of Education sent its Double First-Class Effectiveness Team to Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). SUSTech President Chen Shiyi attended the discussion, and SUSTech Council Chairperson Guo Yurong accompanied the delegation from the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Education deputation first visited the 3D campus construction planning sand table, where they were briefed on the overall development plans for SUSTech.

At the following meeting, team leader and former president of the China Association of Higher Education Zhen Zhenyuan introduced the purpose of their visit. They wanted to learn and understand any problems that exist in the development of Double First-Class universities in Guangdong Province, so they could build opinions and suggestions for monitoring and evaluation.

Chen Shiyi said that SUSTech is committed to building a Double First-Class university with all its characteristics, focusing on the development of Shenzhen’s innovativeness. He suggested that Double First-Class universities should try to meet the needs of regional economic and social development by highlighting their qualities and exploring different roads to creating Double First-Class universities and colleges.

SUSTech Secretary-General Chen Siqi briefed the delegation about how SUSTech operates.

The Ministry of Education research group included senior academic leaders from Beijing Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University, Beihang University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University. Dean Xu Zhenghe from SUSTech’s School of Engineering joined senior leaders from administrative, academic and research departments across SUSTech in attending the meeting.
