Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong led a team to Chaotian Village, Daba Town, Heyuan City and Heping County to carry out “group-type” assistance work and promote the development in eastern, western and northern Guangdong. Secretary-General Chen Siqi, Secretary-General of our school, participated in the activities.

After travelling from Huizhou, Guo Yurong visited health stations and cultural and sports squares with local leaders to get a better understanding of new rural construction in Chaotian. She also inspected the agricultural product industry in Chaotian Village, which mainly consists of passionfruit. In 2017, SUSTech decided to plant passionfruit as an important industrial path to get rid of poverty and increase wealth in Chaotian Village, in accordance with the requirement that precise poverty alleviation of the country should be based on industrial poverty alleviation, based on natural local conditions. After one year, the local passionfruit planting is in good condition, and other agricultural products have been developed. With SUSTech’s help, the local residents have created wealth through their own diligence and developed their village further. In a few years, great changes have taken place in Chaotian Village. New roads have been built and new countryside construction is changing with each passing day.

Guo Yurong also went to Chaotian Primary School to discuss distribution of materials and left-behind children in the village with the principals, and had a cordial exchange with the children.

Following her time in Chaotian, Guo Yurong and her delegation held a discussion with Secretary Chen Jinsong of the Heping County Party Committee, where they discussed poverty alleviation in Chaotian Village. Guo Yurong expressed his joy at the development of the new countryside and anticipated that the construction of Heping County would continually improve. Chen Jinsong affirmed the educational concept of SUSTech, and said that we should take SUSTech as an example. We should put cultural development on the agenda, and promote the educational level of Heping County as soon as possible.
