In the final days of 2018, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) ran its 3rd Young Teachers’ Teaching Competition. SUSTech President Chen Shiyi and Vice President Tang Tao observed the competition.
The Office of Teaching Affairs has organized this competition, where each academic department recommends one outstanding young teacher to participate. Thirteen young teachers took part this year, where they are asked to give demonstration classes in front of senior professors, independent experts, and student representatives. These judges are asked to review the classes and score each teacher comprehensively on the lesson plan and teaching in the class.
Vice President Tang Tao hoped that the teachers at SUSTech would maintain high levels of enthusiasm and teaching levels, and have their teachings promoted. Well-designed lessons would lead to the development of a talent pipeline that cultivates excellent leaders for the future.
Each teacher ran their demonstration class in different ways, using clear and in-depth explanations of the theory being taught, and provided incredible examples of the practical components of their classes. The use of English, classics and real-life enlivened the classes, as it made the scientific knowledge more real, vivid and interesting.
Chen Shiyi affirmed the teaching level of the participants and hoped that all departments would pay more attention to the competition. He anticipated that the award-winning teachers would play a driving role in the development of teaching at SUSTech, thereby improving the quality of education across campus.
The Young Teachers’ Teaching Competition has demonstrably improved the professional level of teaching for young teachers across SUSTech, as well as providing a platform for young teachers to learn and communicate. Their professional development is key to maintaining SUSTech’s high educational standards.
