Recently, The People’s Daily, the biggest newspaper group in China, published a special story, entitled “ Never stop innovating, inject new dynamism into the development of Shenzhen”, on the emerging and development of world-impacting future industries based in the city, including the innovations in robotics, genetics, coding and big data.

In the story, Grubbs Institute Shenzhen, a Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) based scientific research center, was making the case for showing the government’s plan to improve the natural chain of innovation and emerging industries.

The Grubbs Institute Shenzhen will be built into a world-class scientific research center for the development of new drugs, new materials and new energy and Professor Grubbs will serve as the Dean of the research institute. Closely operating with SUSTech, the research institute will set up a new drugs research center, a new materials research center and a clean energy and chemical process research center. The focus will be to attract the brightest students and scientists from all over the world, thereby becoming an international research institute and lead the way in the development of academic research and industrial development of new drugs, new materials and new energy in Shenzhen and China.
