President of the International Association for the Study of Pain Professor Judith A. Turner visits SUSTech

From July 17 to 18 2017, Professor Judith A. Turner, professor of psychology and pain medicine at the University of Washington, visited SUSTech. SUSTech University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong met with her and her accompanying guests of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).

The Director of the Center for Pain Medicine of SUSTech, Director of the Chinese Pain Research Association and Chairman of the China Society of Study of Pain Song Xuejun, Director of the National Key Clinical Pain Specialist of Nanshan Hospital Xiong Donglin, and the Deputy Director of the SUSTech Medical Center also attended the talks.

Guo welcomed Turner and gave her a brief introduction on the history and development of SUSTech and Shenzhen City. She thanked the International Association for the Study of Pain for its concern and guidance on the development of pain medicine in China and SUSTech, and said she hoped that the future of SUSTech and the IASP would strengthen cooperation and exchanges, and develop the university into a leading figure of the field in China.

Turner then gave a speech in which she praised SUSTech’s unique educational philosophy and university model. The university established an independent, comprehensive pain medicine research center, leading the developing research trends in the field. It’s opening was a major event in the international pain medicine field, and the support from the IASP was greatly appreciated.

On July 15-16, Professor Turner attended the 2017 Chinese Pain Medicine Conference and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese Pain Division at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, and said she was impressed by the rapid development of pain medicine research and the support it receives in China.

After the talks, Turner visited the SUSTech campus, and was delighted by its beauty.
