SUSTech is proud to work together with the Shenzhen government to be a beacon of food safety in China. Both the Student Cafeteria and the Lichee Yuan Cafeteria recently received A Grades from the Shenzhen Food and Drug Administration.
The Shenzhen Municipal Government has long had a goal of becoming a national food safety city, and SUSTech believes that it can play an important part of that by providing fresh, nutritious and safe food to its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The campus and college cafeterias feed thousands of people a day, and it is imperative for SUSTech to provide high-quality meals at all times to those living and working on campus.
The Shenzhen Municipal Government’s Food and Drug Administration examined both cafeterias between December 15 and January 30, on a variety of measures such as administrative licensing, personal hygiene, catering environment, catering equipment, food storage, illegal additives, food processing, classification management, tableware disinfection, food transport, and supervision of sample inspections.
The investigatory group’s A grade meant that the cafeterias earned between 9 and 10 points out of a possible 10 points, ensuring that the city continues towards its goal of providing a satisfactory level of food for 70 percent of the population.
Background Information:
The Shenzhen Municipal Government’s Food and Drug Administration administers the Food Safety Grades as a method of managing and assessing the quality and safety of food for its 15 million citizens. Shenzhen’s FDA is creating a comprehensive food safety index to ensure that the general public is aware of the quality of different types of food across the city. They are also working with a variety of other government bodies to ensure that any new regulations are consistent across government for the safety of citizens.
