Tong Xiaojin | 03/26/2018
On March 21st, neuroscientist and CAS Fellow Zhang Xu gave a guest lecture at SUSTech on the relationship between brain science, medicine, and artificial intelligence.

Professor Zhang introduced the exploration history of brain science and the brain disease outbreak situation. He also explained the developments in brain science, the connections between brain science and artificial intelligence, and the effect of their integration through introducing anesthesia for functional connectivity mapping, the types of neurons and neural circuits, and the clinical research being done on brain function and brain disease.

Zhang Xu fully affirmed the achievements Chinese scientists have made, including brain functional imaging techniques, deep brain stimulations for assisting sufferers of Parkinson’s disease, cloning of non-human primates, the Cambricon-1A processor, automatic speech recognition and multilingual translation, and the bionic eye. But he also pointed out that it is significant for Chinese AI technology to emphasize both talent cultivation and basic theory research, to reach the world-leading position.
