Today saw the Topping-out Ceremony for the main structure of the second and third sections of Phase II of the development of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). The ceremony took place on the site of the future College of Engineering. SUSTech Council Chairperson Guo Yurong, President Chen Shiyi, University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang, and Vice President Lu Chun poured the last bucket of concrete to cap the construction. They were aided by representatives of the construction parties. SUSTech Secretary-General Chen Siqi and the Dean of the School of Engineering Xu Zhenghe attended the event.
After the ceremony, Guo Yurong visited the model of engineering laboratory to confirm the quality of the building and observe the construction process.
The second section of Phase II includes three main buildings. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences will move from its current location in the Lynn Library to its own building on campus, while the SUSTech Center and the Academic Exchange Center will have their own centers. The plans are to complete the buildings by the end of November 2019.
The College of Engineering makes up the majority of the third section of Phase II. The total construction area is about 113,700 square meters. The College of Engineering will hold nine departments, more than 200 professors’ research laboratory spaces, 70 public teaching laboratories, and 350 underground parking spaces. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2019.
