Last week, President David Richardson of the University of East Anglia (UEA) led a delegation to Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). SUSTech President Chen Shiyi and Vice President Lu Chun met with the deputation.

President Chen Shiyi welcomed President David Richardson and his party to SUSTech. He said that SUSTech’s rapid development is inseparable from the support of the International Advisory Council members. President Chen wants to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with UEA to consolidate their long-term strategic partnership.

President David Richardson said that the two universities have established cooperative relationships in environmental disciplines in order to lay a solid foundation of cooperation. UEA has strong academic advantages in liberal arts. They have produced many outstanding alumni and he hoped that there would be stronger exchanges and cooperation in the liberal arts in the future.

President David Richardson and his party met with Dean Chen Yuehong from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, who took the delegation to the archaeological heritage laboratory and imagination center.

President David Richardson and President Chen Shiyi also visited five UEA graduate students who had taken a short-term exchange program at SUSTech’s School of Environmental Science and Engineering. They also met with six students who participated in joint training program for doctoral students.

Founded in 1963, the University of East Anglia is a world-class research university and a member of the prestigious 1994 Group. Since its inception, the university has trained a group of well-known scientists and economists such as Nobel Laureates Sir Paul Nass and Ichiro Ishiguro, as well as writers and filmmakers of renown such as Ian McEwan. President David Richardson is a member of SUSTech’s International Advisory Council. Last year, President Chen Shiyi received an honorary doctorate from UEA.
