Earlier this week, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was the host venue of the Frontier Forum on Chemical Biology and Omics Research (International Forum). The Department of Chemistry was a major sponsor of this International Forum, which saw over 100 experts and scholars from across the Greater Bay Area descend upon our campus.

The International Forum focused on the development, integration and application in biomedicine and precision medicine of chemical biology and life combined technology. Department of Chemistry Director Zheng Zhiping and Academician Yang Xueming, Dean of the College of Science both attended the International Forum, along with many faculty members. It was organized by Associate Professor of Chemistry Department, Tian Ruijun.

Dean Yang Xueming welcomed the experts and scholars, briefing them on the development of the School of Science at SUSTech and the disciplines related to chemical biology.

Following his speech, 17 invited experts from around the world gave keynote speeches on insightful topics within chemical biology such as biological mass spectrometry, microfluidic control chip technology, synthetic biology technology and other applications in the field of biomedicine and precision medicine. Their presentations inspired extensive and in-depth discussions.

The International Forum was closed by Salk Institute for Biological Sciences and American Cancer Society Professor Tony Hunter, who praised SUSTech for running a highly successful International Forum. He pointed out that the forum demonstrated the importance of chemical biology and bio-mass spectrometry in cutting-edge biomedical research, while providing a reference for the direction of chemical biology at SUSTech.
