On November 17, 2019, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) welcomed a delegation from the Ministry of Education (MoE). The delegation was led by Mr. Fan Jun, Deputy Director General, the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges and they were looking to learn about SUSTech’s efforts in creating a campus with a global outlook. SUSTech Vice President Lu Chun met with the MoE Delegation, which was joined by senior officials from provincial and municipal education departments.
SUSTech Vice President Lu Chun welcomed the delegation to SUSTech, and presented to the delegates a comprehensive overview about the University’s philosophy and development in academic hiring, education, research, and state-of-the-art facilities. The presentation conveyed to the delegation the ethos of SUSTech for being an innovative and down-to-earth trailblazer committed to original research, academic excellence, social service and internationalization.
MoE Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges Deputy Director General Fang Jun congratulated SUSTech on its achievements in innovating in many areas of higher education. In particular, he praised the University’s education models in cultivating high-end talents with an international outlook which shall deserve a systemic and longitudinal research. He urged SUSTech to take advantage of the historic and unprecedented opportunities that are arising from the social-economic transformation of the Greater Bay Area, and to continuously play an important role in serving the national strategies of development around Shenzhen, the Greater Bay Area and the Belt & Road Initiative.
Following the meeting, the MoE delegation visited the SUSTech Study Abroad and Short Term Exchange exhibition outside the Lynn Library, the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center and the Micro-Nano Processing Platform.
They also explored the Residential Colleges and the other facilities to learn about the campus development. The delegation spoke to several international students, in order to understand how they are fitting in and adjusting to life in China.
