December 13 to 15 was the 2019 Symposium on the Frontiers of Molecular Magnetism (SFMM2019), held at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). The Department of Chemistry hosted SFMM2019, which was co-sponsored by SUSTech, Peking University (PKU), and South China University of Technology (SCUT). SCUT President Gao Song and SUSTech Department of Chemistry Head Chair Professor Zheng Zhiping co-chaired SFMM2019.

SCUT President Gao Song welcomed the attending scholars, pointing out that current research on magnetism is concentrated in Europe and China. Chinese research into molecular magnets is highly active, with many breakthroughs being made.

More than 60 experts and scholars from across China and Japan came to SFMM2019, representing universities and research institutions. They heard cutting-edge reports on topics such as single-molecule nano-magnets, single-chain magnets, spin-cross materials, photomagnetic materials, and multifunctional molecular magnetic materials.

SFMM2019 aims to promote molecular magnetics in China and encourages research cooperation. SFMM originated at Nanjing University in 2013, launched by Prof. Song Gao and Prof. Li-Min Zheng (Nanjing University), aiming to promote molecular magnetism in China and encourage research cooperation.
