On March 22, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) hosted a signing ceremony to formalize strategic cooperation agreements with Shantou University (STU) and Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT).
Distinguished representatives attending the event on behalf of STU and GTIIT included Zhifeng HAO, President of STU, accompanied by Hong YU and Zhong HU, Vice Presidents of STU, as well as Xingao GONG and Chuanping YI, President and Vice President of GTIIT, respectively.
SUSTech’s delegation at the ceremony included Hong JIANG, University Council Chairperson, Qikun XUE, President, Jinfeng JIA, Acting Vice President, and heads of related departments.
Chairperson Hong JIANG expressed her appreciation to STU and GTIIT for their long-term support in SUSTech’s developmental journey. She emphasized the collaborative efforts undertaken by the three institutions, highlighting the profound significance of the current strategic agreements in advancing shared goals and fostering mutual growth.
Highlighting their deep foundation of cooperation, she expressed aspirations to deepen collaboration across scientific research, talent training, and internationalization. She emphasized the important role of strategic cooperation between the three parties in advancing education, science, technology, and talent cultivation in the country.
President Qikun XUE acknowledged the accomplishments of STU and GTIIT, noting that the three institutions have made great strides in their development. He envisions that the signing of these agreements will herald a new phase of collaboration among the three parties, aimed at addressing the nation’s strategic needs and fostering scientific and technological innovative productivity.
Zhifeng HAO spoke highly of SUSTech’s remarkable progress in recent years, underscoring the partnership between STU and SUSTech. He expressed eagerness to further deepen cooperation, particularly in exploring the development of a modern university governance system with Chinese characteristics, and contributing to regional socio-economic development.
Xingao GONG expressed gratitude to SUSTech for its unwavering support, citing the successful collaboration between GTIIT and SUSTech in the fields of quantum science and technology, nanotechnology, and joint training of graduate students. He advocated for deeper scientific research collaboration to bolster discipline development, talent cultivation, and scientific advancement, thereby setting a new benchmark for inter-university cooperation.
SUSTech will work with STU and GTIIT to explore a modern university governance system with Chinese characteristics, strengthen key disciplines such as science, engineering, and medicine, advance joint research on key core technologies, and conduct joint training of graduate students.
