SUSTech celebrates National Space Day with 2nd Aerospace Festival

April 24 marked the 9th Space Day of China, and in celebration of this, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) hosted its 2nd Aerospace Festival on campus.

The event featured an array of activities, including an open day, lectures, and competitions, showcasing SUSTech’s distinctiveness and providing faculty members and students with an immersive experience in aerospace exploration.

The opening ceremony of the festival was attended by Zhonghua PENG, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Engineering, Yuening LIU, Director of the SUSTech Archives and History Centre, and faculty members from the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering (MAE).

Wei HONG, Deputy Head of the Department of MAE, presided over the ceremony and emphasized the festival’s role in upholding the aerospace spirit, promoting scientific knowledge, fostering innovation, and guiding students in their academic pursuits.

In his address, Zhonghua PENG encouraged students to look up to the stars, aspire to greatness, align their personal aspirations with national interests, and contribute to the nation’s scientific and technological progress.

Meanwhile, Yuening LIU highlighted the Archives and History Centre’s mission to serve as an interactive hub for aesthetic education and academic exchange at SUSTech.

Yu LIU, Associate Professor of the Department of MAE, shared insights into the department’s talent cultivation and scientific innovation efforts, underscoring their active exploration and achievements.

The festival featured a space-themed exhibition, showcasing scientific research achievements and hosting an amusement park. Students engaged in aircraft simulations and participated in interactive space knowledge games, deepening their understanding of space exploration and fueling their passion for innovation.

Exhibition materials were presented in both Chinese and English, promoting cultural exchange within the campus community.

Presented by the Department of MAE, the Aerospace Festival will feature captivating exhibits at the Cultural Museum Center under the theme “Look afar to cosmos and join together for space”. Additionally, there will be ongoing space-related activities planned for the future.
