From November 2 to 3, the 3rd Guangdong Provincial “Yanxing Cup” College English Competition and the Seminar on High-Quality Development of Foreign Language Disciplines in the New Era took place at South China University of Technology (SCUT).
This prestigious competition attracted widespread participation from numerous teams representing universities in Guangdong Province. A total of 44,439 participants from 72 universities across the province registered for the preliminary rounds.
Representing the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Mengxuan WU and Sitian WANG achieved remarkable success by taking first place in the competition. In the final round, both contestants showcased exceptional English proficiency and critical thinking skills, delivering compelling speeches on the theme of harmony and individualism. Their performance highlighted the vibrant energy and limitless potential of the youth on stage.

The competition was co-organized by the Advisory Committee for University English Teaching in Guangdong Province and the Guangdong Association of Higher Education, hosted by SCUT and Beijing Yanxing International Education, with support from Beijing Haoce Technology.
The event aimed to enhance the English proficiency among university students in Guangdong Province, encourage reforms in higher education English teaching, improve teaching quality, and promote the exchange of advanced teaching experiences among universities.
The Center for Language Education at SUSTech has been dedicated to advancing English teaching reform in higher education and enhancing students’ comprehensive English abilities. It actively organizes faculty members and students to participate in various competitions and distinctive activities, aligning with the national spirit of improving education quality and nurturing international and innovative talents.
