To fulfill the work of applying for the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in 2016, the Mobilization Meeting of South University of Science and Technology of China (SUSTC) on NSFC Application & Experience Sharing in 2016 was held at the lecture hall of SUSTC’s administrative building on December 14. Tang Tao, vice president of SUSTC, was present and made remarks. All the teachers applying for NSFC attended the meeting. Zhao Yusheng, director of the Division of Scientific Research, chaired the meeting.

In his remarks, Tang introduced the overall situation of SUSTC’s application for NSFC and the approval of relevant projects in 2015, deployed the application work in 2016, and expected to achieve new breakthrough in NSFC application in 2016.

Professor Ren Pinyi from Xi’an Jiaotong University; Researcher Lin Bingcheng fromthe Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Associate Professor Zhang Zuotai from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, SUSTC and Associate Professor Li Chuangchuang shared their application experiences.

Lin made a comprehensive introduction regarding how to complete the NSFCapplication form, elaborating on the notes and skills of writing project bases, research objectives, research content, feasibility analysis, technical routes ofexperimental methods, project features and innovation, etc. His speech was of strong guiding significance for SUSTC’s teachers to apply for NSFC.

Professor Ren Pinyi delivered a speech

Based on his years of experience in NSFC application writing and review, Ren analyzed NSFC application and review, project funding, as well as the essentialsand problems of application writing.

Professor Zhang Zuotai delivered a speech

  Zhang made a keynote presentation on the “personal experience in applying for NSFC and Outstanding Youth Fund”. He introduced his experience in NSFC application and review as an NSFC reviewer.

Professor Li Chuangchuang delivered a speech

Based on his experience in applying for NSFC Outstanding Youth Fund, Li shared his successful experience in getting funded and his research perception from thefunded project.

The meeting offered NSFC applicants further knowledge of the trend of NSFCapplication as well as the key points and notes of project application. It is conducive to further improving SUSTC’s level and quality of NSFC application.
