From February 29 to March 1,the 1st East Asia Symposium of Inverse Problems International Association was held at the department of mathematics of SUSTech. This Symposium was founded Prof. Gunther Uhlmann at University of Washington,fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences(AAAS), and co-organized by the department of mathematics Southern University of Science and Technology(SUSTech), Institute for Advanced Study at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology,the department of mathematics at Hong Kong Baptist University and the department of mathematics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. 

Over 30 scholars and experts from the universities and institutes all over the world, including North Carolina State University, Korea’s Inha University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology,Chinese Academy of Sciences,National Taiwan University,Sun Yat-sen University etc.,attended the symposium.

The symposium was chaired by Associate prof. LI Jingzhi. Prof. TANG Tao, Vice President for research attended the symposium and delivered an opening remark by summarizing the development of the department of mathematics.

He hoped the symposium could promote the development of the department and expand its international influence, especially in the field of Applied and Computational Mathematics.

This year’s symposium invited nine young scholars domestically and internationally to delivered academic reports.The topics covered the latest results, taken by the young scholars, in the field of inverse problems,image processing,partial differential equations.After a heated discussion, the participants offered the valuable academic research suggestions to the related academic problems.

This symposium has became a good communication platform between the young scholars and experts,improving the international influence of SUSTech in the field of Applied and Computational Mathematics.
