| 05/29/2016

HKUST-SUSTech Bilateral Forum on Chemistry, hosted by the Department of Chemistry of SUSTech, was successfully held on May 29, 2016. Themed on “Modern Chemistry—New Medicine, New Materials and New Energy: Challenge and Opportunity”, the event invited experts and young researchers from both institutions to share their academic researches and explore collaboration opportunities between HKUST and SUSTech.

Prof. Xumu Zhang was presenting the opening remarks.

Prof. Xumu Zhang and Prof. Zhenyang Lin, the Heads of the SUSTech and HKUST Chemistry Departments, respectively presented the opening remarks. In particular, Prof. Lin made a very kind comment: “The Department of Chemistry is a leading department of SUSTech, and I’m convinced that it will be rapidly developed under the leadership of Prof. Xumu Zhang”. He believed that the forum would establish a broad new platform to facilitate exchanges and cooperation between the two Departments and would make great contributions to the long-term development of chemistry by communicating and integrating advantages of both universities.

Prof. Zhenyang Li was delivering a keynote lecture entitled Computational Organometallic Chemistry.

Thereafter, faculty members from both institutions delivered keynote lectures, covering a variety of research frontiers. This included but not limited to inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, theoretical chemistry, polymer and materials chemistry, and chemical biology.

This bilateral forum also laid foundation for further collaboration on graduate students training. Both parties agreed that this communication had a significant meaning on promoting the chemistry development and enhancing the friendship between the two universities. Lastly, they both expressed that a larger scale of such bilateral meeting should be held to deepen exchanges and cooperation in the future.
