Vice Premier Ma Kai visits SUSTech’s Stand at the China International Talent Exchange Conference

The 15th China International Talent Exchange Conference was held on April 15 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. Vice-Premier of State Council Ma Kai attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech to all the participants and visitors. Before the opening ceremony, Ma Kai visited the Conference’s SUSTech exhibition stand where he met the university’s President Chen and top management, listened to the latest results of the university and was introduced to the faculty’s renowned members.

Among the notable figures to attend the conference were:

  • Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Guangdong Provincial Party Secretary Hu Chunhua

  • Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Qi Changchun

  • Deputy director of the central talent coordination team, Deputy Minister of the Central Organization Department, Minister of Human Resources and Social Security Yin Weimin

  • Deputy secretary of Guangdong Provincial Committee Governor Ma Xingrui

  • Vice Minister of Human Resources and Social Security Zhang Jianguo

  • Director of the State Foreign Experts Bureau Wang Wenbin,

as well as many other government officials and academic scholars.

Ma Kai browses the SUSTech exhibition stand

Dr. Chen gave Ma Kai a brief introduction on his participation in the exhibition, as well as on his vision and progress of building a world-class research university. He explained how SUSTech attaches great importance to the development of a top faculty and on its core values “research, innovation, entrepreneurship”. He showed that at the end of 2016, the school had introduced 14 new academicians, and had 1007 teachers in the school with 100% of them holding PhD degrees, 90% having overseas work experience and 60% having studied or worked at the top 100 university in the world. Ma Kai listened attentively to the report, and admitted his full support for the development of high-level personnel of SUSTech. He pointed out that human resources are one of the key elements to drive innovation, and he hoped it would become a platform to connect talent and opportunities, to share wisdom and experience and to achieve more fruitful results. Mr Ma concluded by saying he hoped SUSTech will become a magnet for high-level international students and scholars, and will continue to develop into a global research university.

The conference invited the Nobel Prize winner George Smoot to do the keynote speech. Tencent, Huawei, China Merchants Bank, Ping An, and 1258 other well-known companies and institutions offered more than 31 380 skilled jobs. 72 countries and regions and more than 4600 professional organizations from China and abroad were represented, as well as various training institutions, institutions of higher learning, talent institutions and technology companies, and the total number visitors was just over 9300.

SUSTech was one of the members of the Organizing Committee for the conference. Following the invitation of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Foreign Affairs, SUSTech set up their stand at the main exhibition area of the conference, focusing on presenting the team’s talent, intelligence and scientific research. The exhibition was presented in both Chinese and English, covering the general introduction of the university, the academic programs and faculty of full-time academicians and scholars, focusing particularly on some well-known professors, and also on the university’s recent research results and recruitment.
