Shenzhen Federation of Art and Literary Vice Chairman visited SUSTech

Last week, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) welcomed Vice Chairman Wang Guomeng of the Shenzhen Federation of Art and Literary (the “Federation” )and his delegation from the campus literature reading group to meet with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. School of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean Chen Yuehong presided over the meeting that was attended by senior officials from the Federation and members of the faculty of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Dean Chen Yuehong briefed the group about the development of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at SUSTech, focusing on building a small and focused academic team that provides a fundamental general education and multidisciplinary research directions. He believes that it reflects the exploration of a new path of reform in the integration of the humanities and arts education with sciences, engineering, and medicine for higher education in China for the new era. Under the broad umbrella of the development of the Greater Bay Area and the State Council Statement of support for Shenzhen, SUSTech and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences will be able to cooperate with the Federation in many areas.

The main contents of the research included the development of the humanities discipline at SUSTech, creative writing and sci-fi writing. School of Humanities and Social Sciences faculty members went into more detail on those areas, expanding and expounding on specific questions from the delegation.

SZFALC Vice Chairman Wang Guomeng complimented SUSTech on running an innovative university in a dynamic city like Shenzhen. SUSTech is in an incredible position to seize the opportunities provided in new engineering, new science and the integration of humanities and arts education with those fields. He added that SUSTech should continue to use its resource advantages for the betterment of society, and pledged to cooperate with SUSTech in the future.

Following the meeting, Dean Chen Yuehong took the delegation to the Cultural Heritage Laboratory, the Science and Human Imagination Research Center, the lakeside colleges and the Lynn Library.
