SUSTech held Original Seal Art Exhibition

The Shenzhen Original Art Association (SOAA) worked with Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) to organize an outdoor exhibition of 30 original seals in the Lynn Library corridor, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. The display attracted significant attention from students, staff and faculty as soon as it went on display this morning.

SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang was joined by Acting Vice President Zhang Dongxiao and other high-ranking leaders across SUSTech to look at the exhibition. The launch was hosted by Communications and Public Relations Office Director Zhang Ling. SOAA Chairman and original artist Shi Peixiu spoke at the launch ceremony, introducing the works in the exhibition. He pointed out that these works are all official seals, incorporating official script, and this reflects both the beauty and respect for the art-form.

Chairman Shi Peixiu said that the work is designed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the work is a reflection of the profound beauty of the nation. The creative content is split between classical poems and meaningful expressions, expressing the dream of building and developing the country. He said he was happy to have his works exhibited at SUSTech and display traditional Chinese culture at a science and engineering university.

SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang thanked SOAA for their support of the exhibition. He said that SUSTech is a big supporter of traditional Chinese culture, and its role in developing a passion of understanding the development of China over the last 70 years.  Li Fengliang also announced a series of future activities connecting the 70th anniversary to traditional Chinese culture at SUSTech.

Seals are an example of traditional Chinese culture, with the perfect combination of calligraphy and carving. It is also known for its thousands of images inside the square.
