Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic Orchestra Invited for Visit at SUSTech and Performance

On June 5th 2017, world-class Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic Orchestra’s conductor Gesa Longberg and his entourage arrived at SUSTech to give a talk to students and professors about Joseph Haydn’s works, how to interpret Baroque music, Austrian and Hungarian culture and arts. The members of the orchestra had the opportunity to exchange with the students and professors after the speech.In the evening, the 13th China Shenzhen Fair Arts Festival was hosted by the university’s Art Center, the musicians gave a performance at the Shenzhen Concert Hall, where the director of the Art Center, the famous brigade soprano singer Bibao Yi appeared as a special guest. University Chairperson Guo Yurong and many professors and students came to enjoy the concert forming almost an 1000-strong audience.

The Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the world’s leading symphony orchestras, composed of more than 40 musicians from the Vienna and Budapest Symphony Orchestras. It is considered as one of the first-class artistic attainments by the industry as “the voice of Haydn’s music.” During the concert, they played the Haydn Symphony No. 88, Schubert’s “The Fifth Symphony of B”, and various other key works from the 18th century Austrian composer. Flawless playing skills and a strong artistic stance strongly appealed to the audience who was deeply immersed in the wonderful world of classical music.

Bibao Yi was invited to perform as a special guest and gave the audience a wonderful interpretation of Bach’s “my spirit to God my Savior for music”, Rossini’s “I heard the wonderful song” and Handel’s “Let me cry”, classic works performed in a rich warm tone, with vivid emotional expression that thrilled the audience.

In the future, the Art Center plans to organize a wide range of thematic symposiums to foster cultural exchanges from an international perspective, and make positive contributions to the university’s artistic education.
