SUSTech celebrates Traditional Chinese Culture Festival

Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) remains committed to espousing the benefits of traditional Chinese culture on campus. For nearly 6 weeks through the spring semester, this long-standing tradition has featured calligraphy, photography, art and dance, bringing a wonderful audio-visual feast to SUSTech students and staff.

February 19th saw Lantern Festival celebrated on campus. The sound of fireworks echoed across the grounds as students enjoyed traditional pursuits such as guessing games that kicked off the start of the 2nd Traditional Chinese Culture Festival.

“Words like people, see words like face.”

On February 21st, Liu Zongchao, dean of the Art College of Hebei University, brought a calligraphy lecture called “Seeing the Words” to the students. Liu Zongchao explained the collection of Chinese characters, aesthetics, and rules from four angles. The rhythm, imagery, emotion, and artistic accomplishment are integrated into one, and the students and students reflect on the inheritance and development of calligraphy art.

“Drunken Township, Year of the Year” Photography Exhibition

On February 26th, a photo exhibition of “Drunken Depths and Years,” which used light and shadow to record the different tastes of life in life, was carried out in front of the Library. More than 40 photographs were exhibited, in the middle of the city, in the countryside, in the town, and the taste of each year was portrayed in different ways.

“Datong number to treasure, music, and art culture.”

On the evening of February 28th, nearly 200 teachers and students gathered in the Cultural Activity Center to listen to the fascinating lectures brought by the founders of Datong and the founders of Chai Jinghai and Chai Jingyun, and to appreciate the uniqueness of Datong’s traditional Chinese art.

“Blowing sugar people, making windmills.”

On the evening of March 7th, students experienced the production of the sugar-blown candies and the old Beijing windmill under the leadership of the craftsmen. They learned Chinese folk traditional crafts and felt the traditional Chinese culture in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

“Intangible and traditional culture regionality and unity.”

On March 7th, Tao Yi, the inheritor of the national non-legacy art, held a lecture at the Cultural Center. He began with poetic porcelain and expounded his understanding and reflection on the culture of non-legacy.

“Taking tea as a gift.”

On March 12th, a “beautiful gathering” of traditional Chinese tea culture took place. National first-level writer Xu Shilin, Luyi Tea Garden Lin Tao, Badong County Museum Director, and Badong Shennong Tea Culture Research Association (Organization Committee) researcher Xiang Yong and other experts gathered in SUSTech to tell about Chinese tea culture.

“Melodious melody.”

On March 19th, the extraordinary performance of “Qu Yun Meowing” Quyi kicked off with delightful performances from the teachers and students of the School of Art of Liaoning University of Science and Technology brought a hearing feast to the teachers and students.

“The end of the song is not scattered, the art tour talks and laughs.”

On March 21st, Li Wei, Dean of the School of Art of Liaoning University of Science and Technology, led the SUSTech students to enter Quyifang Garden with a folk art performance, to feel the charm of Chinese art and to understand the significance of national culture.

“Drum rhyme dance style.”

 On the evening of March 27th, SUSTech enjoyed an exceptional performance by North Korean Normal University’s practice dance group, which was brought to the forefront by Korean drums. The audience feels the lively and enthusiastic charm of the Korean nation in a changing rhythm.

“Southern country Fangchun to a dance four sides.”

On March 28th, Xie Fei, the young choreographer, and director of the dance department of the Northeast Normal University Music School, led the SUSTech students to feel the unique charm of the Han Dynasty dance.

The traditional cultural festival of SUSTech is full of humanistic atmosphere. The long-standing traditional culture has a refreshing foreign art. It is a multi-integration of listening, offering, photographing, rewarding, performing and music. It brings audiovisual to teachers and students. At the same time, the feast also enriched the campus cultural life and created an energetic cultural atmosphere.
