On March 8, to celebrate the 110th International Women’s Day, the Women Workers’ Committee of the Trade Union of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech Trade Union) organized an online Women’s Day campaign. SUSTech University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong, President Chen Shiyi, and University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang (in his role as Trade Union Chairman) sent warm holiday greetings and blessings to female faculty and staff and silently contributed to different positions, especially during the outbreak.

As part of the celebrations, SUSTech launched an online photo exhibition to honor the many female scholars and staff on campus that continue to contribute to the SUSTech mission. Each photo displays the style of each subject while revealing their ongoing warmth and dedication to their roles. This year’s exhibit shows the vital roles that women play in the ongoing fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), whether they are conducting cutting-edge research, delivering essential supplies, or expanding on their teaching repertoire when confronted with the online educational paradigm. All the women displayed their enduring responsibility to the SUSTech community before, during, and after the epidemic.

SUSTech University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong said, “Today marks the annual International Women’s Day. On behalf of the University Council, I would like to extend my warmest greetings. Facing the epidemic, some of you are heroes, sacrificing family for collective interests. Some of you stay true to your mission, standing on the front line of research and teaching. You are making significant contributions as members of SUSTech. I wish all female colleagues and your families good health, happiness, and success! I wish you a happy Women’s Day!”

Chen Shiyi extended holiday congratulations to female faculty members and students in the school. He said, “Though this year the epidemic stops us from celebrating in person, we can still send our heartfelt feelings online. Many of you are still working on the front line of prevention and control, devoting yourselves to research, teaching, and family. Your efforts are much appreciated! On behalf of SUSTech, I wish you a happy Women’s Day!”

SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang, on behalf of the Trade Union, thanked all the female teachers and employees of SUSTech for their active participation in their selfless dedication to the prevention and control efforts. You have proved that women hold up half the sky and shown women’s charisma in the new era. On behalf of the Trade Union, he sent his best wishes.
