Notice on Arrangements for Students Returning to the Campus for the 2020 Spring Semester

Dear all,

In order to follow the requirements of the government and as per the decision of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), we have the below arrangements for the returning to the campus of students for the 2020 Spring Semester:

1. General requirements

We have always prioritized the safety and well-being of everyone at SUSTech to prevent epidemic outbreak of COVID-19 due to gathering of people in the campus. We shall adhere to the principle of safety first to enhance the prevention and control of COVID-19 with each department and office undertaking its own responsibilities. Screening of personnel and classified management shall be carried out to improve the health management and service for the key group of personnel. We shall also ensure steady supply of materials of COVID-19 prevention and control and smooth operations of teaching and learning to kick off a stable and safe new semester. 

2. Overall work arrangements

According to the relevant requirements of the Department of Education of Guangdong province and the Bureau of Education of Shenzhen Municipality, the schools shall fully restore the teaching and scientific research work as well as the order of campus life. Starting from May 14, students returning to campus will carry out offline learning tasks such as laboratory courses. To promote the epidemic prevention and control and to ensure the safety and well-being of faculty and students, the overall arrangements for students to return to the university are as below:

2.1 On April 27 and April 28, all Ph.D and postgraduates, undergraduates of Grade 2016 and undergraduates with delayed graduation, who are currently in Hubei Province (including Wuhan), are scheduled to return to the campus.

2.2 On May 12 and May 13, all Ph.D and postgraduates, undergraduates of Grade 2016 and undergraduates with delayed graduation, who are currently in the regions other than Hubei province (including Shenzhen), are scheduled to return to the campus.

2.3 Undergraduates of Grades 2017, 2018, and 2019 and students who are currently overseas (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) shall not return to the campus until further notice of the university.

2.4 All returning students shall receive nucleic acid as well as antibody tests and complete other screening procedures.

3. Detailed arrangements

3.1 Arrangements for undergraduates to return to the campus

(1) Undergraduates of Grade 2016 and undergraduates with delayed graduation who are currently in Hubei province (including Wuhan) are scheduled to return to the campus on April 27 and April 28. Upon returning to the campus, these students must check in the areas for medical observation in campus directly as designated by the university for isolation under observation for 14 days. They shall receive nucleic acid and antibody tests provided by the university and complete other screening procedures. If tested negative, the students will be allocated with dormitories by their colleges as per the relevant requirements of the Ministry of Education.

(2) Undergraduates of Grade 2016 and undergraduates with delayed graduation who are currently in the regions other than Hubei province (including Shenzhen) are scheduled to return to the campus on May 12 and May 13. After returning to the campus, these students can return to their dormitories allocated by their colleges as per the relevant requirements of the Ministry of Education. They shall receive nucleic acid and antibody tests provided by the university and complete other screening procedures.

(3) Undergraduates of Grades 2017, 2018, and 2019 shall not return to the campus until further notice of the university, and are advised to study at home in accordance with the relevant arrangements of the university.

3.2 Arrangements for postgraduates to return to the campus

(1) Ph.D and postgraduates who are currently in Hubei province (including Wuhan) are scheduled to return to the campus on April 27 and April 28. Upon returning to the campus, these students must check in the areas for medical observation in campus directly as designated by the university for isolation under observation for 14 days. They shall receive nucleic acid as well as antibody tests provided by the university and complete other screening procedures. If tested negative, the students will be allocated with dormitories by the university.

(2) Ph.D and postgraduates who are currently in the regions other than Hubei province (including Shenzhen) are scheduled to return to the campus on May 12 and May 13. After returning to the campus, these students can return to their dormitories arranged by the university. They shall receive nucleic acid as well as antibody tests provided by the university and complete other screening procedures.

(3) Students overseas shall not return to the campus for the time being.

All Students (namely undergraduates, postgraduates, international students, visiting students) who are currently overseas (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) shall not return to Shenzhen and the campus until further notice of the university. They are advised to arrange their study and life properly, and report health status to the university in a timely manner.

(4) Arrangements for visiting students to return to the campus

Effective from the date of issuing of this notice, visiting postgraduates, who have lived in Shenzhen for 14 consecutive days and have negative results in nucleic acid and antibody tests, can return to the campus with approval of the college or department.

4. Other requirements

4.1 Students who meet the requirements for returning to the campus are not allowed to return in advance. Before entering the campus, they should provide “health information code for epidemic prevention”, “Yuekang code” or “i Shenzhen health code”.

4.2 All students should take sound personal protection on their way back to the university and ensure their safety en route. After returning to the university, they are advised against to leave the campus, or participate in gatherings such as parties and dinners. They should report their health status on a daily basis.

4.3 Office of Students Affairs and the Graduate School shall arrange for undergraduates and postgraduates to return to the campus in an orderly and batch-wise manner. Global Engagement Office shall arrange the issue for international students to return to the campus.

4.4 Office of Teaching Affairs, the Graduate School, and other colleges and departments shall arrange the course schedule, examinations and dissertation defense for all students at home and abroad,.

4.5 Relevant departments and offices shall carry out pest control, maintain good hygiene of the campus, enhance food safety management and arrangements of meals for faculty and students, and provide maintenance for facilities as well as IT services.

4.6 Office of Health, Safety and Environment shall make an overall arrangement for the campus safety control and management and continue to implement closed management and grid management on the campus in a strict manner.

4.7 The Preparatory Office of Affiliated Hospital shall make an overall arrangement for COVID-19 prevention and control supplies, testing and screening as well as community health services. The office shall also carry out training and publicity for epidemic prevention and control.
