Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has recently completed its 2020 master’s program admission process online for domestic students. In the second year of SUSTech’s independent recruitment of master’s students, more than 1,500 candidates took part in the interviews with 900 students enrolled.[1]

SUSTech has worked hard to ensure that every department has maintained the same level of rigor in operating its postgraduate admission processes. Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dongxiao ZHANG has led this mission during the COVID-19 outbreak with plans adjusted to fit the new paradigms. Ultimately, the tests took place online to ensure the safety of all while maintaining fair admissions.

An online interview provided new challenges for SUSTech, so a series of training sessions were provided for staff around the country to ensure that everyone was ready to run the online interviews for students across mainland China. An emergency support team was also in place throughout each interview for the smooth progress of the network situation of each interview center around the country.

SUSTech has a collaborative relationship with many universities, companies, and scientific research institutions across the world. It continues to explore new models of talent cultivation and contributes to the development of Shenzhen & the Greater Bay Area.

SUSTech expects to complete the admission of domestic doctoral candidates by the end of June. Other postgraduate admission processes (including international Ph.D. programs and joint Ph.D. programs) will be completed around mid-July.

[1] This includes 208 students who were admitted under the postgraduate exam-free recommendations.
