On September 26, 2021, Jinpeng HUAI, Minister of Education and Party Secretary of the Ministry of Education, and his delegation visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). They attended an education-themed exhibition and also visited Zhixin Residential College and the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center.
Minister HUAI and his delegation were welcomed by Fengliang LI, University Council Chairperson, Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, and other members of the University’s leadership team.
At the Residential College plaza, the delegation visited the exhibition and Chairperson Fengliang LI introduced the overall situation of SUSTech. He highlighted the vision as the University aims to root in China and strive for a world-class research university.
At Zhixin Residential College, President Qikun XUE spoke about the development of SUSTech over the past ten years and how it has been innovative in its approach to reforming education.
The University has put forward three major development strategies: national deployment support, university-enterprise integration and innovation, and cross-border cooperation in science and education.
SUSTech has also proposed five major action plans, including reforming the governance system, talent training excellence, improving its basic discipline, tackling key problems in applied technology, and major strategic guidance.
Before the exhibition, Minister Jinpeng HUAI was briefed on the day-to-day running of Zhixin Residential College, student activities, its approach to innovative education, and student achievements in competitions. He also spoke with some of the students to learn more about their programs on scientific and technological innovation.
At the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center, Minister HUAI and his delegation were briefed on its aims to support scientific research and industrial upgrading in the areas of biomedicine, precision medicine, new energy, and new materials in the Greater Bay Area.
Other leaders from Shenzhen and the Ministry of Education to attend the event were Kongjun ZHU, Party Secretary of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Hongbo ZHENG, Deputy Mayor of Shenzhen, and Qiuming CHEN, Director of the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau.
