Campus Art at SUSTech

Arts and design have played an important role in shaping the University’s spirit. While roaming the grounds recently, you may have noticed some interesting pieces on display. To reflect the artistic nature of SUSTech and captivate the imagination of onlookers, multiple figurines have been put on display in the greenery.

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” –

Edgar Degas

The meaning of art is not defined and has varied over the years. But it is seen as an expression of a human’s creative skills and imagination. It aims to communicate with its audience and evoke different perceptions based on one’s perspective. Art dares us to add meaning, context, and feelings to the piece, whether it’s a sculpture, a painting, literature, or music.

On your next outing around the campus, keep an eagle eye for these conspicuous sculptures, as some have been placed in areas that you may not expect. They include a pair of rabbits hiding in the shrubberies, a frog relaxing in its surroundings, a koala bear cuddling up to its parent, and some people taking the time to read a book in the park.
