Cultural and artistic performances will highlight the Chinese New Year and Spring Festival celebration on campus during the seven-day holiday.

Before the holidays come, on January 30, 2022, Fengliang LI, University Council Chairperson, and Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, led a leadership delegation to visit faculty members, students, and front-line general affairs and security staff who have decided to stay on campus during the Spring Festival.

Representing all the SUSTech members, Chairperson Fengliang LI and President Qikun XUE expressed their gratitude to the faculty members, students, and staff for their hard work and extended their New Year wishes.

Ling ZHANG, University Council Vice-Chairperson of SUSTech and Chairman of the Trade Union, Hongwei FANG, Provost of SUSTech, Xueming YANG, Acting Vice President for Research, Siqi CHEN, Secretary-General and Director of the Office of Party Affairs and Administration, and Mingzhao XING, Member of the Presidential Executive Council and Dean of the School of Medicine, accompanied the delegation.

Chairperson Fengliang LI and President Qikun XUE expressed their gratitude to the front-line administrative and campus service staff for their sacrifice and dedication, and extended their New Year wishes to all faculty members and students.

Chairperson LI and his delegation visited the postgraduate student dormitory, university cafeterias, and the administrative building. They spoke to faculty members, students, and staff, and extended their warm wishes to everyone staying on campus during the Spring Festival holiday.

They were briefed about the arrangements in place for campus activities, catering and accommodation, prevention and control measures, and security management during the holiday period.

President XUE led a delegation to visit the undergraduate student dormitory, the SUSTech Dining Hall, the College of Engineering, and the main campus entrances. He expressed his gratitude to all SUSTech members staying and working on campus during the Spring Festival holiday.

He emphasized that while creating a Spring Festival atmosphere on campus was important, it’s vital to remain vigilant and ensure that prevention and control measures are followed during the holiday period.

In 2021, SUSTech established its university motto of “Virtue, Truth, Advance”. He hopes that the students will take inspiration from the motto and implement it in their academic studies and everyday life. He said it’s essential for faculty members and students to continue the hard work, make significant contributions to the development of the University, and serve the strategic needs of the country.

Afterward, Chairperson LI, President XUE, and other members of the delegation made dumplings in the staff cafeteria with faculty members and students.

Hong WANG, Director of the Graduate Student Affairs Office and Dean of the Graduate School at SUSTech, said that the University has prepared a variety of activities such as dumpling-making, watching the Spring Festival Gala, hosting a Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner, watching the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and other activities to keep everyone staying on campus entertained during the festive period.

Hongxu ZHANG, a postgraduate student of the School of Life Sciences, said that this is the first time he will celebrate the Spring Festival holiday on campus. “I have decided to stay at the University during the holiday and will focus on my scientific research in my free time.”

Zinan ZHANG, an undergraduate student of Shuren College, said that the University leaders visited her dormitory with a New Year’s gift and was appreciative of the warm gesture.
