Recently, Zhaoyuan MA, Professor of the School of System Design and Intelligent Manufacturing (SDIM) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), was elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP).

Zhaoyuan MA received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Oxford in 2005, and then went on to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and University of California, Berkeley for his postdoctoral research.

Previously, he was titled as the Researcher of the Hundred-Talent Program (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Professor of Intelligent Manufacturing at the University of Sheffield, UK, Principal Investigator of the Future Laboratory, Tsinghua University, Director of the Digital Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, and Assistant Dean of the Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School.

He has long been engaged in research in the fields of intelligent manufacturing, quantum control, artificial intelligence, etc. He discovered quantum chaos in ultra-cold atoms and has made an active exploration of the experimental aspects of the physical core issues of quantum mechanics and general relativity.

In 2009, he took charge of the ultra-cold atom experiment for the Tiangong-4 space station. He undertook the overall design of the physical unit and was in charge of the research on the interaction of the Boson-Fermion mixture in microgravity.

He has also published multiple books, including “Quantum Dialogue”, “AI-Not”, and “Made-in-China made China”.

The Institute of Physics (IOP), founded in 1874, is a well-known international academic institution with a mission to promote the development and dissemination of physics throughout the world and is dedicated to improving and advancing physics in education, research, and industry.
