SUSTech co-hosts World Oceans Day 2022 series of activities

On June 8, Shenzhen held a series of activities to celebrate World Ocean Day 2022 and the Deep Sea Science and Technology Innovation and Development Forum.

The activities were held in Dapeng New District. They were jointly organized by the Baguang Development Agency of Dapeng New District, Shenzhen Science and Technology Exchange Service Center, and the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).

Yuyang JIANG, Chairman of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Association, Guangyang LIU, Secretary of the Dapeng New District CPC Party Working Committee, Ling ZHANG, University Council Vice-Chairperson of SUSTech and Chairman of the Trade Union, relevant administrative departments, along with representatives from various universities, scientific research institutions, industry, and enterprises participated in the events.

Qingsong LIU, Chair Professor of the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering (OSE) and Head of the Office of Human Resources, presided over the launching ceremony.

Yuyang JIANG said that Shenzhen’s “14th Five-Year Plan” outlines the plan to accelerate it into an international ocean city, and the development of maritime academic exchanges and events such as the Deep Sea Science and Technology Innovation and Development Forum has laid a solid foundation for this.

Guangyang LIU said that Dapeng New District regards the development of ocean science and technology as one of its key priorities and will make significant contributions to developing Shenzhen into an international ocean city.

Vice-Chairperson Ling ZHANG also spoke at the event. In his remarks, he said that SUSTech would provide assistance through its academic resources and hopes that more scientific and technological workers will assist in developing Shenzhen into an international ocean city.

Jian LIN, Chair Professor of the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering at SUSTech and head of establishing the Shenzhen Ocean University, presented a special report on the latest trends and development of ocean science research and revolutionary technologies.

Attending experts and scholars at the event also participated in two marine science conferences in the combination of in-person and virtually.
