On August 18, 2022, the first batch of freshmen arrived at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) as they embark on a new chapter in their lives and aim to fulfill their hopes and dreams.

As they collected their student identification cards and put on their freshmen t-shirts, there was a huge sense of excitement in the air from the new cohort of students.

In total, 1,310 first-year students, including exchange students, will enroll for registration for the upcoming semester at SUSTech.

Fengliang LI, University Council Chairperson, Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, and other members of the University’s leadership team visited various locations on campus as they welcomed and spoke with some of the new students and their family members.

To make the registration process smooth and efficient, SUSTech staff members and student volunteers helped with the registration process and assisted the freshmen in moving into their new accommodation.

“The staff members and volunteers have been very caring and understanding, and I believe that our child will have a great experience studying here at SUSTech,” said the parents of Hongcheng WANG, a freshman from Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province.

To create a joyous and welcoming atmosphere, the University set up group photo walls at different scenic locations on campus for students and their family members to record this precious moment as they begin their new journey.

Ren XIONG, a freshman from Hubei Province, said, “The environment around the University is fantastic, and I’m looking forward to spending the next four years studying here”.

Throughout the registration process, the various colleges of the University arranged different activities, such as campus tours of numerous sites, laboratories, and sporting facilities, and performed some musical events.
