The finals and awarding ceremony of the 3^rd Shenzhen Science Popularization Achievement Exhibition Competition, sponsored by the Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology and undertaken by the Shenzhen Federation of Popular Science Education Bases, was recently held in the Shenzhen Science Museum.

The competition covers many popular science fields such as gene technology, aerospace, natural plants, energy and environmental protection, health and wellbeing, etc. Among them, a total of 29 entries made it through to the finals and were displayed on the roadshow.

Through on-site roadshows and question-and-answer interactions, combined with online voting, the first and second series of the science popularization books by the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), “Encyclopedia for High-Tech Whys”, won the first prize.

At the finals, Qingsong LIU, Chair Professor of the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering and Director of the Office of Human Resources, introduced the series of “Encyclopedia for High-Tech Whys” to everyone.

Through these series of books, the exchanges and interactions between SUSTech and various science popularization institutions and organizations in Shenzhen have strengthened, and further promoted the development of science popularization in the city.

The “Encyclopedia for High-Tech Whys” series of science popularization books were initiated by the Faculty Committee and the Office of Communications and Public Relations, and written by a group of well-respected professors. Based on their scientific research results at SUSTech, the books focus on the frontiers of contemporary scientific and technological development.

This series closely follows the pace of contemporary scientific and technological development, looking at the high-tech issues of the times, and uses popular language to explain the high-tech matters in the fields of electronic information, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, biology and medicine, materials and energy, and the environment.

The first and second series were also selected for the 14^th Guangdong Provincial Education Department’s “The Best New Books to Read in Summer Vacation” for primary and secondary schools in Guangdong Province

In 2022, the series was selected as an original popular science book recommended by the China Science Writers Association.

In terms of copyright exporting, the first series has been exported to the United Kingdom (English) and Sri Lanka (Sinhala), and the second series to the United Kingdom (English).
