SUSTech hosts 2nd Forum on Young Alumni Development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Universities

On May 27, the 2nd Forum on Young Alumni Development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Universities, hosted by the Alumni Association of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTechAA), was held in the SUSTech Convention Center.

Feng CUI, Second-Level Inspector of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Yu LIU, Second-Level Researcher of the Exchange and Cooperation Division of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, Samson Tam Wai Ho, JP, Chairman of Group Sense (International) Limited, Yang LIU, Director of the Metaverse Office of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Hongwei WANG, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SUSTech, Ling ZHANG, University Council Vice-Chairperson and Executive Vice President of the SUSTechAA, and other guests attended the forum.

Following the concept of building a platform for young alumni of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao universities, promoting exchanges, and pursuing development, this forum was supported by 22 alumni associations from universities in this region. It attracted more than 200 alumni to participate in the event.

The forum held keynote speeches and roundtable discussions around the theme of “New Science and Technology Innovation and Opportunities”, focusing on interpreting science and technology innovation policies, sharing innovative science and technology cases, promoting in-depth exchanges and integration of innovation and entrepreneurship among young people in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and the high-quality development of innovative science and technology work among young people in the region.

In his remarks, Ling ZHANG said that gathering alumni from various universities in the form of this forum is not only a unique, innovative opportunity to gather high-end scientific and technological talents and alumni resources of universities, but also a way to explore a new mode of resonance between universities, alumni, and cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

He hopes that this forum would bring together young talents from different sectors in the GBA, continue to strengthen exchanges and mutual learning, further deepen exchanges and integration, and promote the high-quality development of young people in the region.

Yu LIU praised the successful holding of the forum and expressed his sincere gratitude to SUSTech for its long-term promotion of high-quality development in the GBA, especially for helping young talents to innovate and start businesses.

He acknowledged SUSTech’s initiatives in forging closer ties between Hong Kong and Macao universities, cultivating scientific research talents, and holding high-quality academic exchange conferences.

Four young talents delivered keynote speeches at the event, sharing their entrepreneurial experiences and innovative thinking, and demonstrating the youth’s vitality in scientific and technological innovation in the GBA.

A roundtable discussion was also held at the event, which was presided over by Zhi ZHANG, General Manager of Shenzhen Nanke New Material Technology Co., Ltd. and President of the Shenzhen Alumni Association of SUSTech.

Those participating in the roundtable discussion included Samson Tam Wai Ho, Yang LIU, Hongwei WANG, and Peixun ZHAN, Chief Strategy Officer of Shenzhen Yiqing Innovation Technology Co., Ltd. They focused on the scientific and technological innovation policies and measures introduced by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, analyzed the opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship given to young people in the GBA, promoted in-depth exchanges and integration of young people in the region, and helping the high-quality development of youth innovation and entrepreneurship in the GBA.

During the question and answer session, the participants communicated with the guests in attendance and answered any questions they had.

The forum was presided over by Jun GENG, Secretary-General of the Alumni Association at SUSTech.
