The undergraduate enrollment work by the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was recently announced, with a total of 1,330 undergraduate students from 24 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, including Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Shandong, and Beijing.

Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, Hongwei FANG, Vice President and Provost, and heads of related departments visited the Office of Admission to review the enrollment work and present admission letters to new members from the Class of 2027.

President Qikun XUE affirmed the enrollment team for their hard work this year and held discussions with student representatives.

He noted that as a new type of research university, SUSTech has remarkable innovation in talent training, scientific research, and social services. He hopes the students will set high ambitions, become the best talents, and take on great responsibilities.

Afterward, President XUE presented admission letters to three freshmen representatives, Zhenhong GUO, Huiheng CHEN, and Xianyang CHENG. He shared his academic experiences with them, encouraging them to develop and grow during their time at the University.

Zhenhong GUO graduated from Shenzhen Middle School and was selected for the Guangdong Provincial Mathematical Competition Team, where he won the silver medal in the Chinese Mathematical Olympiad Finals. He has been admitted to the Turing Class of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SUSTech.

“I care a lot about what I study in university, and the computer science major at SUSTech not only interested me a lot but also lets me show off my math skills.”, said Zhenhong GUO.

He added that after being admitted to SUSTech, he would continue to develop his learning ability and, at the same time, participate in social and extracurricular activities and looks forward to making new friends at SUSTech.

Huiheng CHEN graduated from the High School Affiliated to SUSTech (HSAS) and said it was a moment he cherished when he received his enrollment letter from President XUE.

He recalled a visit to SUSTech during which he thought the University’s campus was very beautiful and was impressed by its academic environment.

“I participated in an information competition at HSAS and received guidance from professors, experts, and students from SUSTech. I felt that the University’s faculty were professional and friendly to communicate with, and feel that is a dynamic research university that lives up to its name”, said Huiheng CHEN.

Xianyang CHENG was enrolled with one of the highest scores in the college entrance examination among the students from Guangdong Province.

He said, “I think SUSTech can help me make the most of my learning ability, realize the idea of lifelong learning, and live a life full of possibilities”.

This year, the number of online applications from Guangdong Province reached more than 11,700, accounting for 20% of the total applications, with 3,317 students taking part in the enrollment exam, accounting for 15%. The number of students enrolled increased from 271 last year to 301 this year, exceeding 300 for the first time.

To attract outstanding candidates, SUSTech launched a class with faculty members as tutors, a science climbing class, and an engineering innovation class, integrating enrollment and cultivation, and nurturing innovative talents.

The University enrolled 149 students from Shenzhen, an increase of 5.5% from last year.

SUSTech has adopted a comprehensive evaluation and admission system for 12 consecutive years based on students’ college entrance examination scores, high school performance, and independent college test scores.

At present, the admission letters for 24 provinces have been sent out. This year’s admission letter box continues with the orange-colored theme from previous years, with gold star patterns and an orange and gold galaxy in the box’s center.

The box contains the admission letter, an enrollment guide, a themed bag, luggage stickers, and other accessories.
