SUSTech 2017 Fall Term Strategic Planning Seminar Marks Beginning of New Semester

More than 110 participants including the university’s senior management, faculty members and leading scholars gathered on September 12017 for extensive talks on the university’s strategic planning for the new semester. The event was presided over by University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong.

8 strategic topics were presented in the form of special reports to the audience. These included:

  • The Path to Prominence for SUSTech
  • The Building of A World Class College student affairs working system
  • Annual Performance Appraisal Program for Faculty Members
  • Work report on High-level Science and engineeing University development
  • Strategy to upgrade the university’s financial system
  • Graduate training
  • The 2018 student recruitment plan
  • The development of the medical school

University officials presented the reports to the audience, underlining the special status of SUSTech in Chinese higher education, and the importance of striving for excellence in the domains of science and engineering, especially in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Ms. Guo Yurong highlighted the importance to adhere to the country leadership’s guidelines, which include ensuring political security, focus on student training quality, and streamlining administrative and managerial organizations.

The next day was dedicated to group discussions where participants discussed each topic in depth. They exchanged opinions and suggestions on each topics with much enthusiasm, and submitted a range of constructive comments and propositions to the university leaders.

SUSTech President Chen Shiyi concluded the group session with a speech in which he reminded the audience that there are high expectations for the university at a local and national level, and that the university is still at an early stage of its life, meaning that we must all be patient, determined and strive to deliver the highest quality of work that we can and contribute to its growth.

The seminar was very rich in information and in ideas, and overall the university leadership was extremely satisfied with its unfolding. The participants provided fresh and relevant input to the discussions, and each head of departments concerned was invited to follow up on the seminar with a report in order to fully implement the new measures and maintain steady progress on the path to excellence.
