SUSTech welcomes delegation from University of British Columbia

On February 18, Rehan Sadiq, Provost and Vice President for Academics of the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBC Okanagan), and his delegation visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).

Li Jin, Vice President for Global Strategies of SUSTech, and other representatives held discussions with the guests.

During the meeting, Vice President Li Jin warmly welcomed the UBC Okanagan delegation and provided an overview of SUSTech’s recent development. He highlighted SUSTech’s commitment as a young research university to cultivate high-level talents with both global perspectives and innovative capabilities.

Vice President Jin emphasized the standing collaborations between SUSTech and UBC and expressed his hope to broaden the scope of cooperation in the future. He specifically mentioned potential areas for collaboration, including undergraduate student exchange programs, research internships, and joint degree programs. He expressed the desire for both universities to leverage their strengths and work together to promote cooperation in various fields, offering diverse learning opportunities for students and broader research platforms for faculty.

Rehan Sadiq thanked SUSTech for the warm welcome and hospitality. He provided an overview of UBC’s status as a leading Canadian research university and highlighted UBC’s strengths in interdisciplinary research, close faculty-student relationships, and a diverse and inclusive campus culture. He expressed UBC’s keen interest in strengthening collaboration with SUSTech, particularly in student exchange and faculty research cooperation.

Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on shared concerns and recognized potential challenges in the collaboration process. They expressed a commitment to actively seek solutions to ensure the smooth progress of the partnership.

Junjian Wang, Assistant Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Hao Chen, Executive Deputy Director of SUSTech Global, Jing Long, Associate Director of SUSTech Global, and Bao Zhu, Deputy Director of Graduate School Admissions and International Office, also participated in the discussion.

After the meeting, Rehan Sadiq and his delegation joined a guided tour of the SUSTech campus.
