On June 23, the first SUSTech alumni association in China was founded in Shenzhen. Attendees of the opening ceremony included President Chen Shiyi, University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang, Residential College Director Han Wei, Humanities Center Director Chen Yuehong, alumni association council members, special guests, and over 40 SUSTech alumni members.

At the ceremony, Chen Shiyi announced that the first president of SUSTech Alumni Association in Shenzhen would be Zhang Yue and the vice presidents would be Wu Guanlong and Zhang Jinsong. Chen Shiyi also raised the association flag.

Li Fengliang emphasized the importance of establishing the SUSTech Alumni Association in Shenzhen, the city with the highest SUSTech alumni concentration. Li offered a few important reminders for alumni work: organizing alumni activities creatively, sharing resources with alumni members, service the alumni with multifaceted and long-term plans in mind, and fostering a sense of connnection among alumni.

Zhang Yue presented the association’s 2018 work plan and mission: based in Shenzhen, service the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. He promised to build a more organized platform for creative alumni activities to increase alumni’s sense of connection to SUSTech and hoped that the association would bring the alumni together for a better SUSTech.

After alumni members offered valuable suggestions, Chen Shiyi delivered the closing speech. Besides reaffirming the important role of alumni in SUSTech development, he also introduced SUSTech’s recent achievements and called on alumni to contribute to the future of SUSTech.

The alumni sharing session took place immediately after Chen’s speech. Notable guests were invited to talk about their experiences, such as University of Nottingham’s Honorary Professor Wu Xuexian, Founder of Shenzhen Reading Club Wang Yang, EMax Technologies Partner Fu Licheng, and SUSTech Class of 2017 Alumni Su Ye.
