September 3^rd saw the first day of the fall semester at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), accompanied by the sweet smell of the autumnal breeze flowing through campus. The SUSTech students began their classes for the new semester. SUSTech President Chen Shiyi and Vice President Tang Tao led a team of heads of departments and relevant administrative departments to inspect the opening day of the new semester.

Starting at 7:50 this morning, President Chen and Vice President Tang Tao and their team went to Teaching Building #1, as well as Lychee Hills Buildings 1 and 2, to observe the start of the new semester and visit the students. President Chen was greeted warmly in the English class he visited by the students with “Good morning, President!” to which he responded with a smile and “Enjoy yourself!” He said that he hoped that all students would cherish their time on campus and enjoy themselves in the new semester.

Chen Shiyi and his team also inspected the implementation of teaching practices. They asked for detail about the course teaching arrangements for the semester, learned about the teachers’ attendance at the class and the varied use of teaching equipment. Chen Shiyi pointed out that teaching is an important task of the University. Teachers are expected to fulfill the teaching tasks stipulated by SUSTech both conscientiously and responsibly. All university departments should provide high-quality infrastructure and management services to their faculty members with care. They should also strive to create a good learning environment for the students.

A new semester brings new weather and a new outlook. The students of SUSTech have entered a new stage of their lives with high spirits and enthusiasm and have opened a new chapter.
