On October 10, 2018, the Art Center hosted the Second “Inside and Outside” Art Exhibition, and exhibited the art in the outdoor corridor of the Lynn Library. The exhibition was one of three artistic activities launched by the Art Center during the “Opportunities and Challenges: Humanities and Arts Education in World-class Science and Engineering Universities Forum.”

According to Director Bi Baoyi of the Art Center, the “inside” refers to the artistic exploration of students who pursue excellence, and “outside” is an innovation with humanistic, artistic feelings.

The exhibits are part of the classroom work of this summer term’s art class and divided into two parts. One part is delicate paper-cuttings, and the other is fine, meticulous brush paintings of flowers and birds. While teaching traditional art, teachers and students continue to find innovative methods for teaching in the classroom in order to break the shackles of art subject matter, content, and form. They boldly design and conceive creatively and innovatively. Both teachers and students try to move from logical thinking to image thinking and from rational thinking to perceptual thinking.

The Art Center is also hosting the “Between the Reality and History – Chen Ken Oil Painting Exhibition.” Organized by the Lynn Library and curated by Professor Wang Xiaosong, it is taking place on the third floor of the Lynn Library. More than 20 oil paintings were created during the 20-year career of Chen Ken, an art teacher at the Art Center of SUSTech.

The Chen Ken Oil Painting Exhibition attracted the attention of many art lovers inside and outside the school. On the afternoon of the 12th, guests of the ” Opportunities and Challenges: Humanities and Arts Education in World-class Science and Engineering Universities Forum” included the curator of the German Ludwig Museum Beaten Reifenscheid, President Barnabas Nawangwe of Uganda’s Makerere University, the President of University of Technology Sydney College of Arts and Social Sciences Mary Spongberg and Dean Gunalan Nadarajan of the University of Michigan College of Art and Design. They were among the many other experts and scholars who highly praised Chen Ken’s oil paintings.
