Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) welcomed Deputy Director Xu Weiqing of the Academic Degree Office of the State Council and his team to campus this week. The Academic Degree Office delegation came to SUSTech to research degree authorization. He was joined by Deputy Director Xing Feng of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education. SUSTech President Chen Shiyi accompanied the delegation with senior leaders from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and SUSTech.

Chen Shiyi welcomed the research team to SUSTech. He thanked the Academic Degree Office of the State Council and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education for their strong support of SUSTech’s application for its doctoral degree units and doctoral degree programs.

Xu Weiqing congratulated SUSTech on its recent achievements of receiving approval to issue doctoral degrees and its doctoral degree units. He also applauded the addition of six master’s degree first-level disciplines and one master’s professional degree, along with the numerous other achievements SUSTech has made in the short years since its establishment.

Both sides discussed the degree authorization mechanisms, management of academic subjects, and the progress of new degree sites across campus.

The delegation visited the Pico Center and the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center. Xu Weiqing affirmed SUSTech’s laboratory platform developments and the research results derived from these platforms. They discussed scientific equipment management mechanisms with the laboratory staff.
