On December 17 in Kunming, SUSTC signed with Yunnan Department of Science and Technology the Strategic Framework Agreement on Sci-tech Cooperation. Director-General Long Jiang and Vice Director-General of Yunnan Department of Science and Technology, Vice President Hu Qixiang and Xu Jian of Yunnan Institute of Science and Technology, SUSTC President Chen Shiyi,  Chief Financial Officer Ye Qin, Director Zhao Yusheng of Research Department, and Dean Zheng Chunmiao of School of Environmental Science and Engineering were present at the workshop and signing ceremony.

At the workshop, Long Jiang introduce development of economy and science and technology in Yunnan Province. He said, Yunnan Province can get into cooperation with SUSTC in many fields. He hoped to push forward the building of SUSTC Yunnan Innovation Research Institute while hoping to see SUSTC making research results and innovations in Yunnan to create values. In his speech, Long Jiang pointed out, “SUSTC is the pilot-test field of education reform in China, winning great attention from the country and world. SUSTC has wonderful positioning, target and powerful faculty force, quality students and best top-level design. I am confident that SUSTC can definitely realize its goals even ahead of schedule. I look forward to seeing SUSTC becoming the model of reform and innovation for the Chinese universities.”

President Chen Shiyi introduced the overview of SUSTC. He said, SUSTC is an innovative university that keeps pace with the times, seeking development integrating research, innovation and entrepreneurship. In just 5 years, SUSTC has been developing rapidly to establish certain advantages in disciplines and talents. By collaborating with Yunnan Province in science, technology and education, SUSTC has shown its vision and determination. Chen Shiyi said, Yunnan has long been known as the Kingdom of Plants, Realm of Animals, Country of Non-ferrous Metals and Hometown to Medicines. There is great space of cooperation with SUSTC in these fields. Besides, SUSTC started to enroll students in Yunnan Province for the first time in 2015, resulting in enrollment of a number of excellent students. He expressed thanks to Yunnan Province for the strong support to SUSTC and hoped to enroll more and better students in the Province. 

After the workshop, Vice Director-General Hou Shuqian and Director Ye Qin of SUSTC gave their signatures on the Strategic Framework Agreement on Sci-tech Cooperation between SUSTC and Yunnan Department of Science and Technology.

According to the Agreement, both parties will work together to build the platform for innovations so as to push forward application of SUSTC’s advanced and applicable research results in Yunnan, and encourage high-level research talents or teams to make innovations or start business in Yunnan. Besides, SUSTC will take its advantages in disciplines to participate in strategy study, consultancy and evaluation of major engineering projects in social and economic development in Yunnan, and provide consultancy or proposals for Yunnan Province to give priority to development fields and major investment orientations. Yunnan Department of Science and Technology will promote major research results of SUSTC to enterprises and institutions in the Province while providing support to cooperation in applying the research results.
